Trends in the Internet banking market (5/4/2005)

A survey from Prince & Cook on 257 users of Internet banking services in Argentina showed 64% use the Internet as the main channel of communication with the bank, 31% go to their branches, and 5% use call centers. Most of Internet access is for checking account balances, 36% use it to payservices and 34% for transfers. Also 26% of uses fear Internet transfers for security reasons. The profile of these users show a high level of education and high income, which lead domestic banks to improve services and strengthen fidelity. Banco Itau is renewing its Web site that has 20,000 active users and a new Java development by Technisys replacing the former based on Visual Basic. The project runs in a AS/400 and had total costs of US$700,000, estimates Angel Zeni, system manager Itau.
